When working to tighten up on your family finances, one of the first things to go is eating out regularly. It can be tough to say goodbye to those favorite take-out meals, but you can bring back the joy of eating out by replicating your favorite restaurant’s menu, right from your own kitchen.

In fact, it wasn’t until Participant Sarah overheard her kids talking about their favorite take-out fried rice that she jumped on the at-home bandwagon. Turns out this is a wonderful way to use up leftover cooked rice (always available at BCS) and add in small amounts of protein (like crispy pork carnitas), green onions, and top with an egg. She says, “It’s soooo good you’ll be kicking yourself you didn’t start earlier!”

To be certain your dish makes even your most particular dinner critic happy, you will want to have a few items on hand.

  • sesame oil
  • fresh garlic
  • soy sauce
  • hot sauce

Be sure to flavor generously with sesame oil and fresh garlic. Then add in a touch of soy sauce, and a shake of hot sauce. From there you can let your taste buds guide you. Adjust the salt level (using the soy sauce) and heat (with your hot sauce of choice). Not only will the end result be a wonderful meal, but a wonderful meal that is just the way you like it!
