FINANCIAL LITERACY CLASS ASSISTANT

POSITION: Financial Literacy Class Assistant (FLCA)
REPORTS TO: Financial Literacy Manager (FLM) LEVEL/STATUS: Part-Time TBD, Non-Exempt
SALARY: $16-$18/hr, DOE

PURPOSE: Birch Community Services, Inc. (BCS) seeks to build a financially stable community by providing education, food, and nurturing accountability. The successful Financial Literacy Class Assistant (FLCA) candidate will give support to all curriculum-based BCS training. The FLCA will also assist in scheduling and follow up, and support the systems for tracking and reporting on the outputs related to BCS training and program impact of families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION HOST (80%)
Objective: In cooperation with the Financial Literacy Team the FLCA will support best-in-class curriculum for courses designed to fulfill BCS’s stated mission. The FLCA is responsible for participation in pre-planning through delivery of BCS training programs, assisting all class curricula development, logistics, scheduling and delivery.

Responsibilities:
• Host finance classes (online), and potentially any class held on site
• Update the education class calendar in Microsoft Outlook/Shared Docs
• Prepare materials for our education classes
• Maintain a safe and organized work environment
• Maintain clear and open communication with BCS staff and volunteers
• Interact with participants and volunteers in an enthusiastic and friendly manner

ADMINISTRATIVE (10%)
Objective: In cooperation with the FLM the FLCA will support all activities related to family meetings, schedule and information management. The FLCA will gather story-based intel gleaned from factors inside and outside of BCS to be used to help families learn to better manage their resources and to assist BCS in improving our programs and developing new ones.

Responsibilities:
• Assist the financial literacy department in class offerings
• Maintain confidentiality and respect for each family
• Send follow-up communication for tracking and accountability
• Assist with the financial literacy department’s reports on the findings and outcomes associated with families

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (10%)
Responsibilities:
• Assist the financial literacy department with program outcomes
• Special projects and other duties as assigned
• Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness
• Assist with office tasks and other duties as requested

QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements:
• Be positive, flexible, and self-directed
• Familiarity using computers and the internet
• Ability to sit at a desk and work in a shared office space
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Open to, and interested in, learning new computer programs (Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, Salesforce)

Preferences
• Experience with developing statistical reports
• Virtual technological experience

HOURS:
Due to the nature of this position, hours are dependent on the class schedule. Assistant will need to be available during evening class hours, and allow approximately 5 hours the week before and 5 hours the week after for prep and follow up. (This may vary)

Upcoming Class Dates (all virtual and 6:40-9:00 pm)
May 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, and 19
June 2, 7, 9, 21, 23, 28, 30
Dates in September, October, and November TBD. Some fall courses may be in person, and require the Assistant to be physically present in 2023.

Part-time position open late May 2022
Mondays & Fridays:  10:00 am to approximately 3:00 pm
Wednesdays: 10:00 am to approximately 6:15 pm
$16 per hour DOE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.

  • Make limit signs daily for the shopping floor

  • Answer incoming phone and radio calls

  • Answer emails

  • Audit and enter volunteer hours from the previous shopping day and send emails as needed to volunteers who did not show up.

  • Complete tasks given by the Office Manager and Account Coordinator.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school degree or GED 
Our ideal candidate will be:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite

  • Adept at operating computer software programs

  • Able to communicate well with grace

  • Able to complete tasks efficiently in an environment where interruptions are expected

Experience with Salesforce CRM is preferred but not required.
