The BCSI Staff

Birch Community Services is staffed by over 500 willing volunteers, and three full-time and four part-time employees. We have some faithful, every day and/or every week people who are key to the efficient operation of BCSI. Here are a few of them:

Barry Birch
Founder
Barry was our first full-time employee and public relations person for BCSI. He now spends his time as the primary contact for donors and coordinating donations.
Suzanne Birch
Executive Director/Operations Manager
Suzanne oversees the day-to-day operation inside the warehouse, and contacts new families as the representative for the Review Committee.
Kristie Calhoon
Administrative Assistant
Lee Coiteaux
Extraordinary Volunteer
Bill Gilbert
Extraordinary Volunteer
Lynn Holstine
Warehousewoman
Lynn Holstine joined the BCSI staff in April 2008 in preparation to replace Christian Search in the warehouse. Any concerns we had about a woman replacing a man were dispelled when we learned she manages five sons at home ranging in age from 11 to 19. Lynn's amazing ability to multi-task helps keep order in a constantly changing format. We love her!
Ken Hovda
Extraordinary Volunteer
Ken is the always-available volunteer driver of our tractor/trailer. His years of experience driving commercial big rigs and his quiet, consistent personality gives BCSI staff and our donors confidence in getting the job done right.
Kim Ikehara
Administrative Assistant
Kim can be found at the front desk cheerfully greeting participants every afternoon. She is our initial contact with new family referrals, and assists Farah and Jane with record keeping.
Hal Laur
Extraordinary Volunteer
Dave Toedtemeier
Driver
Dave came on staff in April 2007 after volunteering for several years. Dave is our Tuesday/Thursday driver picking up product, while still willingly volunteering for us one additional day a week. This keeps his “retirement” exciting, in combination with his interest in coins, hunting and fishing.
Jan Wells
Volunteer Manager
One of our Board of Directors, Jan volunteers full time at the warehouse. Her ready laugh and exuberant personality make her a fun person to work with. Jan’s known for her compassionate spirit and willingness to listen without judgement to hurting people.
Jane Woods
Administrative Assistant
Jane came on as part-time staff January 1, 2006, after volunteering for many years. Jane helps keep the records straight with volunteers and participant updates, and serves as Egbert Kunrath’s assistant for the Good $ Sense classes.
